Data sourced from the USGS National Water Information System. Bite forecast ratings are based on current flow relative to optimal wade-fishing ranges for each tailwater system. Not a substitute for local knowledge — always check TVA generation schedules before wading.

Reading the Forecast

Excellent

Flow is in the prime wade-fishing window. Stable or gently falling. Fish are active and positioned in predictable feeding lanes.

Good

Fishable conditions. Flow may be slightly high or generating, but experienced anglers will find productive water.

Fair

Conditions are challenging — high generation, rapidly changing flow, or off-temperature water. Wade with caution.

Poor

Not recommended for wading. Heavy generation or flood flows. Float trips may still be possible — check with your guide.

TVA Tip: TVA generates power from these dams based on demand — flows can change rapidly. Always check the TVA River Management site before you wade, especially on weekday mornings and hot summer afternoons.
